The Spirit of Tasmania docks less than 2kms away too so if you're heading to Tasmania for a fly fishing adventure we are the perfect place to stock up on flies, leaders and tippet before you settle in for the sail across.

Over 50 years ago Jim Allen started the first Compleat Angler store in Melbourne's CBD. Owner Chris Baty has been behind the counter for over 30 years and his knowledge of fishing has seen him write for national magazines, co-host fishing radio shows along with being a regular guest on Micah Adam's Adventure Angler series. It's knowledge that you can draw on yourself so you too can become a better angler. Learn new knots, keep up to date with cutting edge techniques or find out about new exotic fishing locations. The aim is to help you catch more fish and get more enjoyment out of your fishing. Obviously if you are fishing around Geelong we've got you covered but we also cater to the travelling angler too.

You'll also see Chris' partner Bec in the shop from time to time and while she doesn't like to boast she's caught her fair share of cracking captures from Otways trout and Gippsland Bass to NZ kingfish and the giant bluefin tuna of PEI, Canada. If you want to get your better half into some fishing a five minute chat to Bec might just get her inspired enough to tag along and give it a try.

Lachlan Green is our newest full-timer and has a wealth of local knowledge as well as a good solid grounding on fishing around Australia. He's always up for a chat and is will to put an X on the map to lead you right to where the fish have been biting.

You'll always find a few casual staff about the place too but don't let their youth fool you. They're all locals and out on the water every chance they get.
